The Station Theater is Houston’s home for long-form improv. It offers a lively venue for experiencing great comedy, and there’s not a bad seat in the house. Visitors can bring their own beer and watch up to six shows every week. The performances feature the city’s best improv talent. One of their most popular offerings is Sketchblast, which they hold every Friday night at 9:30. Also, the writer/performer group Blue Shift gives its comedic take on local happenings and current events. No two evenings are the same, and advance tickets are only eight dollars.
Open Wednesday through Sunday, the Improv showcases the best comedians in the business. Over the years, it has welcomed the likes of Lily Tomlin, Drew Carey, and Jerry Seinfeld. The manager is always on the lookout for rising stars. The comedians keep everyone laughing. Also, they cover topics ranging from relationships to politics. In the kitchen, the chef creates enticing meals that visitors can enjoy during the show. Offerings include grilled honey glazed salmon, pork sliders, and buffalo chicken sandwiches.
As the home of ComedySportz, CSZ Houston is where two teams of improvisers compete in a hilarious battle of the wits. CSZ is home to the longest-running show in the city. The teams use audience suggestions, so no show is ever rehearsed. The comedians often play to sold-out crowds, so reservations are recommended. The performances are held every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Audiences choose the winner.
